Designed by Jane Frye, this pretty sleeveless dress is almost certainly an early 1960s piece. It is crafted from soft, lightly textured silk or a silk blend in three complementary hues of green and adorned with sculptural appliqué of roses, buds, leaves and vines. A two-toned belt encircles the waist and is clipped onto a large bow at the front with an adjustable hook-and-eye clasp. The skirt is softly pleated at the waist and falls to the mid-calf. The whole dress is lined with pale chartreuse silk. A very high quality and wearable piece; the original label reads “Jane Frye - Minocqua” - an area of Wisconsin, USA.
I absolutely love design and like to think that it was inspired by the Christian Dior dress that Elizabeth Taylor wore to the 1961 Oscars where she won for her performance as a call girl in Butterfield 8. Marc Bohan designed the “Siorée à Rio” (Party in Rio) dress for Dior's Spring 1961 collection, sparking admiration from fans the world over and inspiring fashion designers for years to come. We have attached this Dior dress as a reference point and hope you agree!
The Jane Frye is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. Due to the age of this piece, it does not have a composition or size label. The fabric does not have any stretch to it so please check the below measurements closely. We estimate the dress is best for sizes UK 8-10 or US 4-6 with a petite waist. Our model 6-8 and 5ft 4in. (163cm) and this dress was slightly roomy on her.
